This trek is recognized by the enthusiasts as the toughest trek in the world because of its altitude, distance, climate and remoteness. At the same time the Lunana region of Bhutan is one of the most beautiful areas of the world least visited. Though many do not finish the entire trek, we have developed a plan that will help anyone complete the entire distance in 19 days. We have included acclimatization (first 3 days in Bhutan), rest day, cultural experiences that will refresh and encourage you along the way. You do not have to be brave, you just have to be determination. Your experienced guide will guide will help you set the needed pace for each day of the trek. Careful planning for each trek to the Lunana region includes our expert local guide, pack horses, cold weather equipments, and a cook. From the time you ariive you will be cared for and know exactly what to expect. Your guides are also prepared for any emergency that could happen.

 

Day 1 Arrive Paro by Druk Air

 

On arrival, you will be  escorted by our representative to your hotel. After the refreshment;  visit Ta Dzong (National Museum), Paro Rimpung Dzong, and Kichu Lhakhang.  Overnight  in hotel.

 

Day 2 Excursion to Taksang

 

The hike to Taktsang, the Tiger's nest takes  4-5 hours. This magical monastery clings to a vertical cliff 4000 ft. above the valley. Drive to Thimphu in the evening. (mainly to acclimatize)

 

Day 3 Thimphu - Punakha

 

Thimphu sightseeing and drive to Punakha and overnight halt in camp

 

Day 4 (Start of Trek)

 

Punakha - Tashithang - Geondamji: Alt 2250m/ Time 5-6 hours

 

Day 5 Geondamji - Gasa: Alt 2900m/ Time 6-7 hours

 

Day 6 Gasa - Koena:  Alt 3650m/ Time 6-7 hours

 

Day 7 Koena - Laya: Alt 3800m/ Time 8-9 hours

 

Day 8 Halt in Laya to explore Laya village

 

Day 9 Laya -Rodophu: Alt 4350m/ Time 8-9 hours

 

Day 10 Rodophu - Tarina: Alt 3980m/ Time 10-11 hours

 

Day 11 Tarina - Wache: Alt 3800m/ Time 6-7 hours

 

Day12 Wache - Lhedi: Alt 3650m/ Time 7-8 hours

 

Day 13 Lhedi - Thanza: Alt 4000m/ Time 7-8 hours

 

Day 14 Rest day at Thanza

 

Day 15 Thanza - Tsorim: Alt 5121m/ Time 8-9 hours

 

Day 16 Tsorim - Gangkar Puensum: Alt 4970m/ Time 6-7 hours

 

Day 17 Halt a day at Gangkar Puensum base camp

 

Day 18 Gangkar Puensum - Geshe Woma: Alt 4200m/ Time  6-7 hours

 

Day 19 Geshe Woma -Warathang: Alt 4000m/ Time 8-9 hours

 

Day  20 Warrathang - Dur Tsachu: Alt 3400m/ Time 5 hours
