| Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek |

This trek, near Thimphu, offers you an opportunity to visit large number of lovely high altitude lakes.
Along the
trek route alpine flowers, rhododendron, different species of pheasants, musk
dear and mountain birds are found in abundance. Since Dagala Thousand Lake is
situated in the heart of the great Himalayas. This trek offers spectacular views
of some of the most prominent peaks of the world. Detailed Itinerary Day 1 Arrive Paro by Druk Air
Your flight into Paro will be a befitting introduction to the natural beauty of our country. On a clear day, magnificent views of the world's highest peak, give way to lush green Paro valley as you land. On arrival, one of our representatives will receive and escort you to the hotel where arrangements have been made for two nights halt.
Day 2 Paro Sightseeing
Visit National Museum (one of the best museums of Asia), Rimpung Dzong (fortress of the "heap of jewels"), and Kichu Lhakhan (one of the oldest temple of Bhutan built in 659 AD by a Tibetan King). Drive to Drugyel Dzong (a ruined fortress - 16 Kms. away from Paro Town). On a clear day you can get a view of the Mt. Jhomolhari(Alt 7329m). On the way back you visit a typical Bhutanese farm house and take a leisurely stroll around the compound. Overnight in hotel.
Day 3Paro - Thimphu (65km/ 2hours)
Drive to Timphu following the river Pachu downstream to its confluence and then up the river Wangchu to Thimphu. Lunch will be served at the hotel. In evening, the Memorial Chorten, dedicated to the late third King of Bhutan. Overnight halt.
Day 4 Thimphu Sightseeing
Thimphu is the capital city of the Kingdom with the population of about 50,000. Visit the Memorial Chorten, built in1974 in memory of the late King of Bhutan; National Library where ancient texts and manuscripts are preserved; The Indigenious Hospital where traditional medicines are still practiced; Woodcraft and Painting school where traditional art and crafts are still kept alive; Handicrafts Emporium where Bhutanese textiles are displayed and can be purchased; Tashichho Dzong, the main secretariat building, the office of the King and Throne room and also the house of the State Monastic Body; Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest fortress of Bhutan built in 1629 and it houses the largest monastic schools in the country. Overnight in hotel.
Day 5 (Start of Trek) Thimhu - Genekha
It takes 45 minutes drive to reach the starting point of the trek. After walking through terraced fields and coniferous vegetation for about 4 hours. A day's trek will end near the Genekha School where the camp is set.
Day 6 Genekha - Gur: Alt 3350m/ Distance 5km/ Time 4 hours.
The trail lead you through one of the most enchanting natural scenery amidst alpine forest where flora and fauna are in abundance. After walking uphill for about 2 hours you will rest on a huge rock platform which offers a beautiful view of the valley below. Another two hours walk and you camp in the heart of the woods.
Day 7 Gur - Labatama: Alt 4050m/ Distance 12km/ Time 5 hours.
Today's trek takes you amidst flowers and wild asparagus (in spring). You will also enjoy the natural beauty of the rugged mountain vegetation. The first pass (4250m) symbolized by a huge cairn gives a spectacular view of the whole Dagala range, meadows and the yak herder's camp.
Day 8 Halt in Labatama The
Hike to Setsoi and explore the nearby lakes. Lunch at the summit and return to camp by dusk and prepare for the next day.
Day 9 Labatama - Panakha: Alt 4000m/ Distance 8km/ Time 4 hours.
The trail will lead you 4500m, above sea level at some point. Today's trek route offers a magnificent view of the most prominent peaks such as Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake, Trering Khang, Khangbum, Masagang, Tsendegang and Gangchen Ta.
Day 10 Panakha - Talakha: Alt 3080m/ Distance 8km/ Time 4 hours.
The day includes crossing of several passes, each more impressive than the other. Varieties of Blue Poppy grow along the side lines in the month of june and july. Different kind of mountain can also be seen. After lunch, an hour of gradual climb will bring you on the tip of the last Dagala range which offers a grand view of Thimphu valley. An hour walk downhill and you reach Talekha monastery. Overnight camp.
Day 11 (Last day of Trek) Talakha - Thimphu - Paro
Two to three hours of walk downhill through mixed vegetation and apple orchard take you to the main road where your transport awaits. Drive to Paro via Thimphu. Evening free to relax. Overnight in hotel.
Day 12 Departure
In morning, your guide will bid you farewell at the Airport. Tashi Delek! |
