| Chomolhari Trek |

This trek provides a wonderful trekking experience but requires trekkers to be in good physical condition as it includes many walking hours and the crossing of two high mountain passes. The view of Mt. Chomolhari(7314m) from Jangothang is spectacular. The trek also provides an excellent opportunity to see yaks and yak herders. Day 1 Arrive Paro by Druk Air During the flight to Paro, one will experience breath taking views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks, including the sacred Chomolhari and Mount Jichu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival, you will be greeted and escorted by your guide to your hotel where arrangement have been made for two days.
A day of acclimatization. Visit National Museum, Rimpung Dzong, and Kichu Lhakhang. Drive to Drugyel Dzong (a ruined fortress - 16 Kms. away from Paro Town). Although in ruins, this Dzong is of great historical importance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the invading Tibetans and drove them back. On a clear day you can get a view of the Mt. Chomolhari(Alt 7329m). On the way back visit a typical Bhutanese farm house and take a leisurely stroll around the compound. Overnight halt in hotel.
Drive to Drukgyel Dzong where the road ends and the trek begins. The trail follows the river uphill through a beautiful meadows and paddy field. You will see various birds and richly coloured butterflies along the forest. The campsite is next to army outpost.
The path continues uphills through the river valley and rhododendron forest with few isolated farm house. The valley gradually narrows to a mere path which descends to a meadow where a camp will be set up.
The valley begins to widen here with a spectacular view of high mountain ridges and snow-capped peaks. Yaks and the herders' winter homes become a regular feature of the landscape. Camp for the night beneath a ruined fortress at the base of Mt. Chomolhari.
A rest day but clients love to take a hike to Tshophu for fishing and walk around the glacier lake of Chomolhari and Jichu Drake to the north.
Trek through wide yak pastures and up and down passes. As you come down into the Lingshi basin, you get a wonderful view of Lingshi Dzong on a clear day. Tsarim Kang and its glaciers rise up at the north end of the valley. Night halt is a choice between a stone hut or the tent.
A day excursion to Tsokha (Lake), which is the base camp for Jichu Drâke, can be organized. Blue sheep and musk deer are plentiful along the trek route.
The trail climbs up to the Yalila Pass (4820m). From the pass, you can get an excellent view of Chomolhari, Tserim Gang and Masagang on a clear day. The trek from the pass to camp site at Shodu is steep downhill. Camp can be made in a stone shelter or in tent.
The trail follows the river Thimchu through rhododendron forests. Waterfalls can be seen along the way. The valley narrows till the path takes to the slopes and gradually ascends to reach the ruins of Barshong Dzong. Camp can made in stone shelter or tent.
The trail descends through thick rhododendron forest to meet the Thim-Chu and then ascends to pasture lands. Camp will be set up at a meadow.
The trail continues through dense forest winding up and down and through a small pass. Some wild animals can be seen along the way like Langurs (monkeys). Your transportation will carry you from Dodena to Thimphu. Overnight halt in hotel.
Visit Tashichhoe Dzong (office of the King and Throne Room), the National Library, Folk Heritage Meseum and Textile Meseum, Painting School and the Institute of Chusum. After lunch visit the Memorial Chorten (built as a tribute to late King), Dechen Phodrang, Simtokha Dzong (the first Dzong built in Bhutan) and explore the town for some shopping. Drive back to Paro for the night.
