Bumthang Cultural Trek

 

Bumthang is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of Bhutan. It is the spiritual heartland of nation and home to some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries and temples. This trek is named as a cultural trek because the opportunity to visit villages and Lhakhangs are greater than most other trek in Bhutan. Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 1 Arrive Paro by Druk Air

Your flight into Paro will be a befitting  introduction to the natural beauty of our country. On a clear day, magnificent views of the worlds highest peak, give way to lush green Paro valley as you land. On arrival, your guide will receive you, and then drive to Thimphu.  Dinner and overnight halt in hotel

 

Day 2 Thimphu - Trongsa

After breakfast, 7 hours drive to Trongsa across Dochula Pass(3140m) and Pelela Pass(3300m). Lunch at Wangdue town and overnight  in Trongsa.

 

Day 3 Trongsa - Bumthang

In the morning visit Trongsa Dzong and the Watch tower(now a museum). Drive through Trongsa town to the beautiful valley of Bumthang. After lunch in Bumthang visit Jambay Lhakhang, Tamzhing Lhakhnag and Kurjey  Monastery. Overnight in Hotel.

 

Day 4 (Start of Trek) Jakar - Nagang Lhakhang: Alt 2900m/ Distance 14km/ Time 6 hours.

The trek route follows the Chamkhar river, passing across many rural villages and some temples. The trek is easy and gentle.

 

Day 5 Nagang Lhakhang - Ugyen Choling:  Alt 2850m/ Distance 19km/ Time 8 hours.

The route ascends gradually through juniper forest toward Phephe La Pass(3340m) and decends to Tang valley, finally arriving at UgyenCholing to camp at the river side.

 

Day 6 (Last day of Trek) Ugyen Choling - Bumthang

Take a short walk to Ugyen Choling Dzong and the surrounding villages, then drive to Jakar till you arrive at the road junction. Visit the legendary "burning lake" (Mebartsho). This lake is regarded as very holy and sacred. Overnight halt in Bumthang.

 

Day 7 Bumthang - Punakha

After breakfast  drive to Punakha. The journey takes about  8 hours. In evening, visit Punakha Dzong and overnight in Hotel.

 

Day 8 Punakha - Thimphu (Thimphu Sightseeing)

The drive takes about 3 hours. After your lunch and refreshment in Thimphu; Visit  Tashichho Dzong (Office of the King and Throne room, main secretariat building of the government ministries, living quarters of the monk body). Visit handicraft emporium, painting and woodcraft school. Visit Memorial Chorten(a huge stupa) built in memory of the late third King of Bhutan. Visist National Library and Simtokha Dzong (oldest Dzong of Bhutan). Simtokha Dzong has the largest monastic schools in the country.

 

Day 9 Departure

Early morning drive to Paro Airport. Your guide will bid you a farewell.
